Lynn Is In It For The Long Haul!

But she didn’t give up, this setback led Lynn to start her own business making and selling BBQ sauce!

Lynn’s journey with our partner, CityLink, started in 2015 when she moved back to Cincinnati to be closer to her sister who was very sick. Leaving a good job and stability behind in Tennessee, Lynn knew it was time to come home and be with family. Moving back felt like starting over in many ways and created some financial difficulties for Lynn.

Having a tough time finding a job, she went to the unemployment office who referred her to CityLink. This is where Lynn was able to sign up for some job training classes and found a job at a call center which led her to self sufficiency.

She paid off her 2011 truck in 2016 but lost her job shortly after. But she didn’t give up, this setback led Lynn to start her own business making and selling BBQ sauce! Lynn was able to maintain self sufficiency through her BBQ sauce business, working in medical records and leaning on some unemployment.

In 2020, she was ready and able to truly focus on her finances and created a strategic plan with Michelle from one of our partners, SmartMoney, that she was ready to stick with! She got reconnected with ChangingGears at this time and let Viviane, our Program Coordinator, know that she needed a bigger vehicle than the Toyota Yaris & Nissan Versas we had available at the time. The week her now 2014 Chevrolet Equinox became available was the same week her 2011 truck with 300K miles on it died….the time was right!

Lynn worked hard for a long time to get everything lined up and ready to purchase her car and next up is her house! We are so proud of and amazed by all the ways she persevered and for so long. It was a gift to see her drive away from ChangingGears in her new Equinox the day we got to hand her the keys. She is driving toward success!

She wants everyone to know, “There is HOPE in your journey! And even when things are tough, smile…. you never know who might be encouraged by your smiling face. We’re all God’s people, let's help each other in any way we can.” Words to live by. Thanks Lynn!

Please keep Lynn and her BBQ sauce business in your prayers.  She’s ready for her next step of being on the hunt for a commercial kitchen!
